Obiero the night runner 'Athlete'....
In a quiet village of suba land ' Aora chuodho' , It was a family tradition to meet once in a while since the era of their grandmother Awinja the wife of chief Jamigingo. It was a sunny and calm day, all was going on well women finishing up with their daily chores of the day men seated at their drinking den and children playing their games
in the midst of the crowd there was gathering of few people, debating on the emerging village issues that were affecting them, amongest robbery crime etc but what later became the hot soup of discussion was whichcraft and nightrunning which caused sleepless nights for the villagers, there were few suspects but it was still treated as a romour by most of the villagers, one of thd key suspect was Odiero ' the Athletee' who was from the hills facing the famous Ruma wild life reserve where his ancestors originated. Most people had heard romours about their family whichcraft myths, Odiero was mocked by the crowd about the family which made them an outcast in society.
Odiero sat silently listening to the insults from his village mates,
one of the villagers who was loudest Jascrep told him off ''Odiero what harm can your family do to us ?'' Omondi the drunkerd teased Obiero 'we have heard about your family fairy tales...your great grandfather came and never harmed even a fly 'Vitisho tu '
Odiero sat there sipping last 'thing ' (local brew), skeptical , being the only one left in the family he sat there defensles acting as the punch bag from the insults that came from all angles of furious villagers little did they know what was awaiting for them in the night.
It was not until midnight that the loud talkative crowd realised Odiero had gone missing. there were whispers and rumours that Odiero had just been seen in the other room believed to house all the food stuffs. little did they know that dark clouds had gathered upon the sky and lightening flashing from the furthest western hills. Agutu kaluo, the eldest son immedately noticed the unusual stormy signs of the unbecoming long night ahead. malenfe abutu the only son in the military calmed everyone notifyng them of his presence and bravery.
The hyenas funny laughter was heard after a very long time and a black owl which is highly tabooed was once seen by the frightened villagers who now knew that alot was instore for them with Obieros' mysterious disappearence,
the elderly men in the village were sought to interprate and calm down the situation but they were too terrified to come out of their houses,
voices of people pleading with Obieros' mercy were heard 'our son Obiero please forgive us we plead with alot of humility,' All this time Obiero had not been seen. Hailstorm and thunderstorm were heard and heavy rain begun to rain which was a shock to the people since it was a dry season .
The famous whichdoctor could not interprate what was going on.
from the shores of lake victoria ,Otoyo the roumor monger claimed that 'Omweri' the snake had passed across the village ,it was associated with eating women and children, this increased fear and more suspence was building up.
None of these occurence had ever happened to the village .Obiero for once became a hero in the wrong reasons even a todler felt the Obieros' wrath.
the Reighning elder Osundu ,Obieros' grandfathers' brother took the bold move and stepped out of his house and shouted facing lake victoria ''my son we have heard you and i apologise onbehalf of the village, none if this is going to happen again'' he pointed at the skies and supprisingly the rain stopped and all was calm, only crickets were heard. no one dared to come out of the house at that moment.
night passed by ,people woke up to a messed up village.Obiero was still missing, at noon Obiero emerged from the east of the village with his usual tattered clothes pretending not to have done anything.only Osundu made contact with Obiero ,they talked for a long period and a ritual was done to appease the ancestors and prevent another disaster from happening.
Obieros' name became a household to the entire village . he was feared and respected too.
